The Sacred Summit
The highest
Shiva temple
in the world.
Tungnath — Tritiya Kedar, the third of the legendary Panch Kedar — sits at 3,680 meters in the Rudraprayag district of Uttarakhand. Believed to be over 1,000 years old, this is where the arms (bahu) of Lord Shiva appeared when he hid from the Pandavas as a bull.
Just 1.5 km beyond the temple lies Chandrashila (3,690 m) — a summit that offers one of the most spectacular 360° panoramas in the Himalayas. On a clear morning you can see Nanda Devi, Trisul, Kedarnath, Chaukhamba, and Bandarpunch all at once.
The trek begins from Chopta — the "Mini Switzerland of Uttarakhand" — and takes only 4 km of walking. Ideal for first-time trekkers, families with school-age kids, and anyone short on time but hungry for the high Himalaya.
